MATH
We are in the middle of our fraction unit! We began the unit by creating unit fractions (where the numerator is 1) with paper models and ordering fractions from least to greatest. We’ve also been using pattern blocks and cuisenaire rods as models to understand fractions. We have learned how to place fractions on a number line and find equivalent fractions. We’ll learn a new game this week called Fraction Cookies.
ELA
We are preparing for your visit to our Frog Fest! After spending time researching and taking notes, third graders have become experts on a particular frog and its physical and behavioral adaptations. We’ve been organizing our paragraphs with focus statements, details, explanations and wrap up sentences. We’ve worked hard to edit and revise our writing as well. We look forward to sharing our work with you!
SCIENCE
We are currently studying water and climate. We began the unit by investigating and comparing precipitation patterns around the United States. We are also learning about the climate zones, while making connections to our knowledge about animal adaptations. Ask your child what the difference is between weather and climate!
SOCIAL STUDIES
Students in 3A have been learning about Massachusetts Bay Colony and the Puritans. We have analyzed details of daily life, housing, education, and work of the Puritan men, women, and children of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. We’ve also been learning how harshly religious dissent was handled in the Colony.
